Forty years ago today, Alaska’s steel artery – the Trans Alaska Pipeline System – pumped its first barrel of oil, and 17 billion more have followed since. It is impossible to overstate the importance of TAPS to Alaska: supporting our schools and public services, building a strong economy, and bringing countless opportunities to Alaskans.
