WASHINGTON (AP) — President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and President Donald Trump expressed hope that Monday’s critical talks with Ukrainian and European leaders at the White House could lead to trilateral talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin to bring an end to Russia’s war on Ukraine.

President Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and key European leaders are scheduled to meet at the White House on Monday afternoon to discuss Russia’s war in Ukraine.

President Trump has abandoned a push for a cease-fire, arguing instead for a full peace agreement, a position held by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Steve Witkoff said Russia agreed in Alaska that the US and Europe could provide Ukraine with a Nato-style guarantee.

President Donald Trump traveled to Alaska on Friday in an attempt to find peace between Russia and Ukraine, telling reporters he wants the killings to end.

The highly anticipated summit ended without a breakthrough. Afterwards, Trump said Ukraine and Russia should proceed straight to seeking a full peace deal instead of a cease-fire.

Speaking after Friday’s summit, President Putin again implied that the war is all about Russia’s diminished status since the fall of the Soviet Union.
