MSNBC Will Now Be Called MS NOW After Splitting Off from NBCUniversal. Here's What It Stands For
On Monday, Aug. 18, the cable news channel revealed it has rebranded amid its exit from NBCUniversal. MSNBC will now be called My Source for News, Opinion and the World, or MS NOW.
Lefty cable channel MSNBC is being forced to take on a new name after its spinoff — as the NBC brand strips the network of its iconic peacock symbol. Mark Lazarus, who will lead Versant, the new company consisting of MSNBC and other cable assets, announced that the channel will be renamed to MS NOW — short for My Source News Opinion World.
This update also involves a new logo, sans NBCU’s signature peacock, in order to distinguish itself from NBCU. While CNBC—which stands for Consumer News and Business Channel—will keep its name, the network will also take on a new logo without the peacock.
In addition to MS NOW, USA Network and Golf Channel will merge into a new USA Sports brand and CNBC will change its logo but retain its name
MSNBC's proposed name and logo change isn't quite landing, especially on the Internet. See what netizens are saying about the rebrand.
MSNBC is rebranding to "MS NOW" and is getting a new logo. Employees are chattering about what the rebrand signals for the cable TV network's future.
Now, MSNBC is MS NOW. As MSNBC leaves NBCUniversal for Versant (formerly, SpinCo.), the cable news channel is rebranding to an acronym that stands for My Source for News, Opinion and the World. Right, so the MS no longer stands for Microsoft, but it’s still there.
