It's hardly a secret that the films of the Jurassic Park/Jurassic World franchise do well at the box office. Audiences have demonstrated a passion for seeing dinosaur-filled action on the big screen for over 30 years.

The seventh installment in the action-adventure series created by Steven Spielberg opened well ahead of expectations over the long Fourth of July holiday in the U.S. — where it racked up $147.3 million — as well as overseas.

Dinosaurs are alive and well at the box office as Universal’s “Jurassic World Rebirth” trampled competitors, grossing $147 million domestically over five days of the Fourth of July weekend.
