France’s minority government could be ousted next month after three main opposition parties said they would not back a confidence vote which Prime Minister Francois Bayrou announced for September 8 over his plans for sweeping budget cuts.

Inconceivable' for French Socialists to Back PM Bayrou in Confidence Vote, Faure Says PARIS (Reuters) -The head of the French Socialist Party Olivier Faure told French daily Le Monde on Monday that it was "inconceivable" that French Socialists back Prime Minister Francois Bayrou in a confidence vote.

To help resolve the crisis, the government announced Sunday that it would speed up asylum appeals that could lead to more deportations and clear a backlog of cases.

Britain has seen regular protests in recent weeks outside hotels housing asylum seekers, spurred in part by concerns about public safety.
