Rookie left-hander Parker Messick put the Guardians in position to win, but the Diamondbacks rallied to tie the score in the bottom of the ninth, and won the game on pinch-hitter Adrian Del Castillo’s bloop RBI single in the 10th as Arizona handed Cleveland a 3-2 loss Wednesday at Chase Field.

The Guardians, in a surprising move, have optioned left-handed starter Joey Cantillo to Triple-A Columbus and recalled left-handed reliever Tim Herrin. Cantillo replaced Luis Ortiz in the starting rotation on July 3 after Ortiz was put on non-disciplinary paid leave because MLB is investigating him for gambling allegations.
