Communication boards are one type of augmentative or alternative communication (AAC) device. They can be simple, handmade boards or computerized programs.

AAC includes the use of picture communication, speech-generating devices and sign language. The communication board has the same symbols as the devices children have at home.

Communication boards have been created for those with speech, language and communication difficulties.
