Richard Osman's hit book series has been given the Hollywood treatment by Netflix, but has it delighted the critics the same way it did with readers?

The Thursday Murder Club closely follows the plot of the first book, which made us all fall in love with the titular crime-solving pensioners: Elizabeth (Helen Mirren), Joyce (Celia Imrie), Ron (Pierce Brosnan) and Ibrahim (Ben Kingsley).

Movie premieres double as date nights for Sir Ben Kingsley and his wife Daniela Lavender. At the U.K. premiere of his new movie The Thursday Murder Club — held, fittingly, on Aug. 21, a Thursday — the Oscar winner, 81, made a rare public appearance with Lavender, 50, a Brazilian actress.

Thursday Murder Club actress Celia Imrie has said the film’s cast “all would” return for a sequel.
