Mercedes-AMG has just dropped a teaser for their first fully electric SUV, scheduled for a 2026 debut. Built on a dedicated AMG platform, this model aims to go beyond the typical formula of adding special touches to a standard Mercedes SUV. Instead, it’s designed from the ground up with AMG’s performance DNA at the core.

AMG has produced a sportier version of the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV, but on Thursday it announced a larger standalone model based on its own AMG.EA dedicated EV platform. A teaser sketch released as part of the announcement shows a fairly sleek silhouette by big SUV standards, with a steeply raked rear roof pillar and low roof line.

The electric AMG SUV will use the same AMG.EA platform as AMG's upcoming electric sedan, with prototypes undergoing initial testing this winter.

To date, Mercedes-AMG has built five standalone cars. That list is already set to expand to six when the sub-brand's new electric sedan debuts — but as it turns out, the Mercedes performance group won't stop there.
