Six people were killed after a powerful explosion caused a residential building to collapse in Athens’ historic Plaka district.

A British national and his Greek wife in their 70s are believed to be among six people killed following a severe building collapse in the Plaka district of Athens.

Pictures from the scene showed emergency service workers searching through the rubble, with a gas leak suspected as the cause of the blast.
