According to the National Weather Service (NWS), a major winter storm warning is in effect from Georgia through Virginia on Saturday, Jan. 31. Heavy snow and gusty winds are forecast from the southern Appalachians in Georgia through coastal regions of the Carolinas and southeastern Virginia.
"An intense surge of arctic air behind the coastal storm is bringing below freezing temperatures and wind chills," the WPC said.
