Reds end Brewers’ franchise-record, 14-game winning streak on Hays’ bases-loaded hit in the 10th
Austin Hays’ single with the bases loaded in the 10th inning gave the Cincinnati Reds a 3-2 victory over Milwaukee, ending the Brewers’ franchise-record winning streak.
The Chicago Cubs once had a strong lead in the National League Central. However, the Milwaukee Brewers entered Sunday with a nine-game lead.
The Brewers beat the Reds, 6-5, for a franchise-record 14th-straight victory Aug. 16 with help from a 3-run homer by Andruw Monasterio in the 11th.
Nowadays Milwaukee is in the NL Central, and 87 wins is often good enough for at least a wild card. Of course, this year's team can set its sights much higher. Even after their winning streak was snapped Sunday, the Brewers are 33 games over .500. They need to go just 19-20 the rest of the way to set a franchise record with 97 victories.
Another day, another Brewers win led by starter Quinn Priester, and the team has now won 14 straight games in which he starts.
