ROSELAND, La. (WAFB) - Officials gave an update on an explosion and fire in Roseland on Saturday morning, August 23, and said a one-mile evacuation zone around the scene of the incident remains in place.
Fire and debris are the main concerns after a Roseland plant explosion. School children were evacuated. Highway 51 is shut down. John Bel Edwards also evacuated.
Sgt. William Huggins of the Louisiana State Police said that there were several small explosions at the plant as the fire continued burning overnight. He said that was “consistent” with what is burning at the site, though officials still said they could not specify what those materials are.
State police are asking residents not to touch or clean the soot due to the remains being unknown at this time.
